Sarah Maple

Anti-Rape Cloak

Sarah Maple completed her BA in Fine Art from Kingston University in 2007 and in the same year won the ‘4 New Sensations’ award for emerging artists, run by The Saatchi Gallery. Sarah’s artwork, film and performances have been exhibited internationally at galleries and institutions including A.I.R Gallery (NY), AGO (Canada), the Southbank Centre (London) amongst others. Her work has been included in publications by the Whitechapel Gallery, Phaidon and Gestalten.

“This new body of work, Anti-Rape Cloak, focuses on the responsibility women have to not be raped. I have created a full body cloak to ensure that men will not by chance catch a glimpse of an exposed arm or knee and be so overcome with lust that they will not be able to control themselves. I have taken the cloak on my travels to model the full range of situations where it has proved effective.”
